The Cuban Missile Crisis was the most important event of the Cold War because it avioded the start of an actual war while stregthening relations between the United States and the Soviet Union. It also helped Cuba stregthen their economy and have a powerful ally on their side.

On 3 and 4 June 1961, US President John F. Kennedy and First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) Nikita Khrushchev meet in Vienna in an attempt to ease the tension between the two superpowers.
